Kaszandra Peña is a queer mexican artist and designer from the San Diego-Tijuana area.
Silver Lining of the Shadowsis a two panel embossed aluminum relief featuring an arrangement of shadow figures of California native plants, found in the garden of Dear Tomorrow. The piece is inspired by aluminum as a construction material and also its use in the Mexican craft of hojalata, learned from her grandmother. The reflective surface shifts with light revealing an image that could be likened to a futuristic butterfly. The work considers transformation and the moment of change resulting from division or separation; reflecting on industrialization and finding resilience in the native plants that persist.
