“Ripe”

“Like all good fruit, the balance of life is in the ripe and ruin.” This quote from Interlude 1 on alt j’s an Awesome Wave album are the words that initially inspired this drawing. My favorite fruit, pomegranates, are the epitome of ripeness to me. They are prodigal by nature, and remind me of all of the bits of sweetness in life around me. In a world as reckless as ours, perfectly ripe moments are rare. I spent 70 hours drawing this pomegranate scene and each moment allowed me to dwell in the beauty of such a luscious fruit. Engulfed by elegant drapery, I hope this piece reminds the viewer of the soft, sweet, and perfectly ripe moments in our life.
