Krista Shellhammer is a strong believer of the stoic philosophical principle that we should only put our energy into what's within our control. She tries
her best to apply this mindset towards her emotional state. There is so much to be grateful for, even amongst the chaos of modern life, so why not
enjoy the life you are given through a more positive lens. Through her work, she tries to share glimpses of joyful moments with others to hopefully
encourage taking ownership of their state of mind and shift it to something more enjoyable and productive.
Unsure of the reason why, lemons have become one of Krista's recent obsessions, creatively. Maybe it's because to her lemons are the scent of joy,
feel like tangible sunshine, or symbolize opportunity. Like a portrait, in this piece she places the significant citrus fruit front and center surrounded by
dark foliage that seems to try to hide it from the viewer.
