Carve your own original wax design, whether it's a ring, pendant, or pocket trinket, and watch it transform into a solid sterling silver piece through the art of lost wax casting.
In this hands on workshop, you'll learn the theory and process behind this age old technique while melting, carving, and shaping wax into your own unique design. Lost wax casting allows for an incredible range of shapes and details, giving you the freedom to create something entirely your own.
After class, your wax original will return to the studio to undergo the casting process. Your design will be transformed into sterling silver, then cut, finished, and polished before being returned to you.
A little about the process:
Each wax creation is attached to a casting tree, which allows molten silver to flow into the design. An investment mold is built around the piece, then heated to 1,350°F to melt away the wax and prepare the mold for casting. Molten sterling silver is poured into the cavity, bringing your original design to life in metal.
A few things to know:
It's recommended that you arrive with an idea of what you'd like to create.
Hard carving wax and soft sculptable wax will be available.
Your class includes 10 grams of sterling silver, enough to create a small ring. Designs requiring additional silver will incur an additional material charge.
Your finished silver piece will be completed after class and returned to you once the casting and polishing process is finished.
